Has anyone there used the Component Intergration Services of ASE.
I am trying to use the sp_remotesql system stored procedure to execute
some dynamic SQL in a T-SQL stored procedure. When an attempt is made
the following error is received:

Server Message: Number 11224, Severity 16
Procedure 'sp_remotesql', Line 0:
Cannot open a connection to site 'scruseag' because it does not have
PASSTHRU or RPC capabilities.
(return status = 0)

How do you give a ASE Site/Server PASSTHRU or RPC capabilities.

Thanks in advance,

Anthony,

Sounds like your using sp_remotesql to run sql on the local server. Is
that correct? If so you need to have a different interface file name for
the local server (but with the same ip,port of course), and do another
sp_addserver to define that one to the ASE. Then use that server name in
the sp_remotesql call. This is necessary because sp_remotesql, as the
name suggest, was designed/intended to execute sql on a remote server. It
can be used to do sql on the local server, but this additional step is
needed. In the following boff1192 and boff1192_loop have the same ip,port
in the interface file:

1> sp_helpserver
2> go

boff1192 boff1192
local 0
boff1192_loop boff1192_loop
ASEnterprise
timeouts, no net password encryption, writable , rpc security
model A

Gordon,

Thanks for responding to the message. The answer to your question is
yes (sp_remotesql on local server).
I fully understand all you wrote but the interface file. Does the
interface file have the .ini or the .cfg extension
if not neither what is he file extension.

In either case do you have two separate files or multiple entries in a
single file.

Thanks in advance,

Anthony
