Hi,

I am new to Sybase. Need help in Migrating the database from one
platform to another. For example, from Solaris 2.5 or 2.6 (UNIX) to
WinNT / Windows 2000. Any tools which I can use to migrate sybase
database from Solaris 2.5(Unix) to Windows NT or vice-versa?

Anyone out there who has expereince on this ?

Thanking in advance

Sandy

Since you are going across the "endian" zone, dump and load will *not*
work. Your only route is a bcp. So, do you have the schema?

If you have a copy of the schema grab Anthony Mandic's fabulous BCPtool
from http://www.mbay.net/~mpeppler, rebuild the database on the new machine
(for speed, you probably want to build the indexes later and turn on the
"select into/bulk copy/pll sort" option for the database. This should give
you fast bcp. You should be there.

If you do not have the schema I suggest that you grab dbschema.pl
(http://www.midsomer.org) and extract a copy. You will need to install
Perl and Sybperl on one of the machines with the client stuff installed
(either NT or Solaris is fine!) Build the schema on the new machine and
load the data as per the last para.

As suggested, DB Artisan will do most of this for you, but *all* of the
data will go from the solaris machine to the machine running Artisan and
then on to the NT machine, one more network hop than is actually
necessary.

Sybase central can help you with some of this, but certainly not all.

You may be able to define proxy tables and do select ... insert into the remote database, depending on your version.

The only tool you can use that Sybase provides is bcp since you are
going from one platform to another.
