Hi there,

I'm experiencing a strange behaviour in my server.

Until y'day we had a 2.0GB transaction log which got almost full.
(No threshold action). I tried to truncate the log, but the log never
getting truncated. Hence we extended it by adding one more GB of space.

Now i tried again to truncate the log but it is not getting truncated.

Have you experienced this b4.

Am i making a mistake if yes, how to over come this?

Thanks in Advance.

With Regards

The txn log can only truncated up to the last active transaction. Sounds
like you might have a long running txn (like someone using 'begin tran'
without a commit or rollback) that is causing the log to continually expand
since this txn is the back marker. Find this process and kill it and you
will most likely be able to truncate without drama.

From memory, select from syslogshold will give you the longest active txn
(you might want to check this though...)

Hi John

Thanks. I have found out the problem. We also have a replication (borken) for
this server. After going thru some books,
i have found and solved it now.
i used
dbcc settrunc('ltm','ignore')

Thanks again.

Take care & Bye
Swami

Hi Andrey,

Infact i also had the problem but never realised while posting.

Anyway, you may try this one.

dbcc settrunc('ltm','ignore')
go

after this, dump the transaction log.

Hope this solves the problem.

bye
Swami
