I have a purchased copy of ASE 12.0 and the post-install (reboot)
processing hangs after displaying Sybase logo screen. I even download
the Evaluation to see if it was the CD, but it too hangs the same way.

There is no signs of distress in the Installer.log as far as I can tell.

What seems to be the problem could be the actual machine that I'm
installing
on which is the following:

IBM Netfinity 5500
4 - 500MHz Xeon processors
2GB RAM
Operating System: Windows 2000 Server

Has anybody experienced this?

Thank You,

Michael Morton

Have the same problem, and no solution. Have tried on several boxes, and it
gets the error on every other box. eventually tried to put the master
device on a network drive which has disc space like Texas, and that helped,
but it was still impossible to boot into...

Check your swap file. It should at least be 1.5 time the size of physical
RAM, in other words at least 3 GB. Also how much memory are you allocating
to ASE? To find out, run in isql, sp_configure "total memory". To use more
than about 1.5GB of RAM for ASE, there is something else you have to do. I
had a Sybase case on it several months ago, they had me run sp_configure
"shared memory starting address", 23662592, but your problem may be
different, as I am running under NT.
