Hi everybody,
I would like to upgrade to ASE on NT version 12 by uninstalling the
previous version 11.5.1 and then install ver 12 but I do not want to
recreate the logins.
Does anyone know how can I achieve this? Thank you very much. Simona

I went through the same thing. Rather than upgrading, I wanted to build up
the machine and start from scratch, but I didn't want to trash the logins
since that would mean 'resetting' all the passwords.

So I did this first, before uninstalling 1151.

BCPout the master..syslogins table.
bcp master.dbo.syslogins /tmp/syslogins.dat
out -c -Uusername -Sservername -Ppassword

Then open the file just genereted and edit it.
Delete the line for the sa login. Also, in version12.0 there is 1 more
column in syslogins so I added 1 more tab delimited column with null's.

After the machine was cleanly setup with 12, I did this.
-Changed the server configuration option to allow updates to system tables.
-BCP in the data to master..syslogins.

Seems to work fine. It preserved all the logins and passwords.

Then I just created the databases and loaded them up from a dump. All the
users are in there working fine...correctly "mapped" to the logins.

-Nick

You could do an in-place install and then remove the 11.5.1 directories. But, be careful
as the 12 install may reuse some directories, but I'm not sure.
