I’m using Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere Database Engine
Version 8.0.2.4293 (installed asa_802_win32_ebf_4293) with
jConnect-5_5 JDBC driver.
I have encountered Engineering Case #300109 that should have
been fixed , but still getting this problem. My JDBC test
program generates a simple table. I see this table columns
displayed as not nullable at the Sybase Central where the
database default option is to have these as nullable. The
database seem to ignore this configuration.

See below problem description:
Build #4078 - Engineering Case #300109 : Columns were
always being reported as not nullable through the ASA
provider.
This was most noticeable when generating datasets in Visual
Studio .NET.
The AllowDBNull property would always be false, even if a
column allowed nulls. This has been corrected.

Is there special operation I need to carry out in order to
execute the patch or I’m missing something here?

You are missing the fact that the engineering case you are referencing is
for the OLEDB Provider only and does not apply to jConnect.

Can you provide the code for your test case?

Hi Chris ,

Thank you for your quick reply.

Attached test case. I'm trying to set the
ALLOW_NULLS_BY_DEFAULT to "On" but this does not seems to
effect the database. The table generated with Allow Nulls as
No for all columns.

The ASA Database Administration Guide
(http://download.sybase.com/pdfdocs/awg0800e/dbdaen8.pdf
page 548) state the default for JDBC is
ALLOW_NULLS_BY_DEFAULT is OFF but does not state this can
be modified.
There must be a way to set the ALLOW_NULLS_BY_DEFAULT to On.
Many JDBC users would have been very upset with this since
this is not the behavior with other RDBMS vendors.

Any help would be appreciated.

The ALLOW_NULLS_BY_DEFAULT option is set to OFF when using a TDS-based
means of connecting to ASA, for compatibility with ASE's Transact-SQL.
JConnect is one such interface. Do you see the same behaviour when you
use the JDBC-ODBC bridge?

How do I do that?
Which URL and Driver should I specify to use the ODBC-JDBC
bridge driver?
