Does anyone know if PocketBuilder can connect natively or by
OLEDB to a SQL Server CE database instead of to an ASA
database?

TIA,
Shannon

Currently it only can connect to ASA. It can connect to an ASA database
running on the attached PC or any other pc on your network.

They may be planning on something more in an upcoming release but don't
quote me on that.

Roland,

How about a RF connection? What we're trying to determine
is if we can use Pocket PowerBuilder to design an
application for use in warehouses during inventory counts,
etc. Users will want real-time access to the main Sql
database, not synchronization except as a last resort...

Shannon,

I haven't tried RF but I would assume that Pocket PowerBuilder wouldn't care
whether the connection is wired, RF or WLAN. See my reply to Chris for the
.dsn file parms to connect remotely.

Roland;

I have the PC connecting to the PPC ASA DBMS, how do you set it up to have
the PPB Application access a networked ASA DB when cradled?

Thanks ... Chris

Chris,

Here are the contents of the .dsn file. In this case, CVXP4293 is the name
of the PC that my iPAQ is attached to and where the database is.

[ODBC]
EngineName=asademo8
DatabaseName=asademo
CommLinks=tcpip(DOBROADCAST=DIRECT;HOST=CVXP4293)

You can use the proxy table features to if you want to connect to
enterpriese data server on the network that is not ASA. You just need to
first go thr. a 'shell' ASA first (ASA is not expensive). Just need be
careful you no longer has transaction handling in this manner.
