Following code ...
I always delete the file manually to test the code
if NOT Fileexists("\cer2000.dsn") then
li_file = FileOpen("\cer2000.dsn",LineMode!,Write!,LockWrite!,Replace!)
FileClose(li_file)
SetProfileString("\cer2000.dsn","odbc","autoStop","Yes")
SetProfileString("\cer2000.dsn","odbc","pwd","sql")
SetProfileString("\cer2000.dsn","odbc","uid","dba")
SetProfileString("\cer2000.dsn","odbc","databasename",ls_db)

SetProfileString("\cer2000.dsn","odbc","databasefile",gs_applicatie_dir+"\"+
ls_db
SetProfileString("\cer2000.dsn","odbc","start","\windows\rteng8.exe -c
4096")
SetProfileString("\cer2000.dsn","odbc","driver","\windows\dbodbc8.dll")
end if

SetProfilestring Returns -1 when I put a messagebox
The file is always created as should and is on the right spot, but the file
remains empty!

What is wrong with this? I can't see it, maybe it is obvious,?

Thanks

ICE;

Looks good to me ... maybe you need to do a FileWrite ( ) first to add the
[ODBC] header to the file?

ICE

Yeah ... I know, but since PPB is new I thought it might be a little
dysfunctional in this area. Also, the Unicode thing on the PPC device might
require it first. Just a thought off the top of my head!

In Win-CE "profile strings" are not supported (that's
an OS level thing).

We simulated profile strings (and sections and such) with
low level file I/O (literally 250 lines of C++ code!!).

I have just opened a case with your code example so we
can look into this.

Workaround -
When the file is created, write a line, like a comment line, using
regular file functions.
Then the profile functions work as expected.

Example:
integer li_file
integer li_ret

li_file = FileOpen(gs_FileName,
LineMode!, Write!, LockWrite!, Replace!)
li_ret = FileWrite( li_file, "; top of file" )
FileClose(li_file)

Why:
The profile functions (currently) expect the target file to be
both present and a proper UNICODE text file.
This requires a text file which had at least one char written
to the file. That first write to the file puts in the
unicode signature bytes.

What I did to work around this problem is, copy the INI file from the PPC to
the desktop and, with notepad, convert the INI file into UNICODE format, and
copy the INI file back into the PPC. Then it should work.
