I am creating a delivery system where a signature capture is
needed upon receipt of goods. I want to implement something
in Pocket PB that is very similar to the PictureBox control
in EVB.

A sample solution in EVB is provided here:
http://www.devbuzz.com/content/zinc_evb_signature_capture_pg1.asp

Is there a way to create an area on my PPB window using API
calls (CreateWindowEx) that can capture mousemoves and draw
lines accordingly?

Or is there any way I can get the PictureBox (or something
similar) inside PocketPB (it comes in mscepicture.dll:
Picture.PictureBox)?

I was not happy with the RichInk control - it is flakey at
best and doesn't give you control over what it's doing. I
just need something simple and that responds quick enough
when signing. (Unfortunately creating line objects on the
fly in a datawindow is too slow - by the time it paints a
line it misses mousemoves.)

Thanks so much!!

Hmmmm - interesting article.
The Microsoft recommendation is to use RichInk, but you're
right in that is a pretty lame when humans are writing.

I'll look into noodling something up for this for the short-term.
(but I have a busy weekend already planned...)

For the next PPB, we are adding a native "signature" control.
The current discussion has all centered around using
the RichInk (and how we weren't satisfied with that).
Using a custom window (and custom/proprietary data stream)
is an easy approach, but the proprietary nature of
the data is what we don't like.

Anyways, Thanks for the link and ideas,
Regards,

The perfect problem for a poly line solution. I have been
wanting that in the datawindow for a long time along with
polyfills. Just pass a string of comma delimted x,y
coodinates.

Reed is there a method for capturing the SIP Transsciber
input before it goes into an edit field???

Thanks in advance!

Its nice to see a Sybase product person actually reading
these posts. I like Pocket PB more and more.

Reed:

We are using the RichInk solution you provided. The solution performs well.
We are saving the blob referenced in uf_SendMessageBlob to a .pwi file. Then
we use ActiveSync to convert the .pwi file to .rtf. I have a service on the
ActiveSync server that saves the RTF files into the database. During
testing, I was using SelectBlob and PasteRTF to a RTF datawindow. Little did
I know, you cannot use a RTF report as a nested report.

Do you know of a way to display RTF on SQL select datawindows? I need to
display a signature (RTF file, stored as a blob in SQL Anywhere
5.5.04) on a report. I tried using a database blob object linked to the blob
field. I used wordpad and word for the OLE class. However, nothing is
displayed upon
retrieval. Double clicking the OLE blob field opens a blank Word doc. I even
tried saving the RTF datawindow as a WMF file, hoping to use WMF with a
picture control. The WMF was saved, but does not display when I assign the
WMF to the picture control. Anyone converted a RTF to a bitmap before?

Thanks,

Greg
