I got this report from our DBA...

Using the ASA 8, I attempted to Unload and Reload the Japanese [codepage]
database. It returned an error during the Reload with the ASA 8 unload but
not with the ASA6 Unload. When unloading the database, Unload creates a SQL
script to reload the structure and the data (using .dat files). This SQL
script is different in ASA8, but the .DAT files are identical. Here's the
difference in the "Reload Data" section:

ASA 6:

INPUT INTO "Baxter"."HCPDCMessageCodes"

FROM 'C:\\TEMP\\UNLOAD\\179.dat'

FORMAT ASCII

BY ORDER

go

ASA 8:

LOAD TABLE "Baxter"."HCPDCMessageCodes"

FROM 'c:\\temp\\japan\\172.dat'

FORMAT 'ASCII'

QUOTES ON ESCAPES ON STRIP OFF

CHECK CONSTRAINTS OFF

DELIMITED BY ','

go

The problem appears to be with the data delimiter. The Japanese database
uses different characters and I believe that one of them is a special
character, possibly the single quote or comma. Is there a way to create a
SQL script using the ASA 8 "DBUnload" command line that uses "Input" for the
reload instead of "Load"?

What's the difference between "Input" and "Load"?

Thanks

Regards, Mike Niemann

An unload has the option of INTERNAL or EXTERNAL unload. This will affect
whether a LOAD TABLE or INPUT INTO is used in the reload. Use EXTERNAL
unload to have a reload script with INPUT INTO....

Worked like a charm.

Thanks again.
