How can I create an WinCE .exe file for my application without having a
device connected to the computer?

I want to make the packaging (.cab) myself, later on.
The only solution I could find was to deploy .exe and .pbd s to PDA, then
copy them back to desktop.

I'm using PPB 1.0.1(b 212)

Hi Maria,
did you check:
Project Build Options

Option Meaning
Build CAB file for Distribution Select to build a cabinet (CAB)
file containing all the components of your application. Build this file
when you are ready to distribute your application to end users. A CAB
file and supporting files are created for each platform you select in
the Deployment Target group box.

should work without a device connected
HTH
regards
Klaus

I tryed to work with the automatic CAB build feature, but still I preffer to
do my own packaging later on, in order to be able to use my own (extended
from the standard) .INF file.

Or is there possible to specify my .INF file to be used by the automatic
build ?
Is there another way to specify all the files to be packet together with the
application in the .CAB ? [database, .DNS file, links, .ini file etc.]

You can edit the INF file generated in the Project painter to include
these database files in your application CAB file.

Have a look in the docu - Delivering your app to end users chapter 22 in
resource guide.

Also what I already done (regarding your previous posting on the exe
file seperately), if you need the exe seperately is to take the cab file
and extract it and rename the files that are named like app????? just
into eg. appname.exe and/or appname.pkd.. .

Klaus;

Great tip!

I was just looking into this for my own application and wondering about
other files like the DSN and application short-cuts as well. I will try your
suggestion on all of these.

Thanks ... Chris

FYI-
I have a "tech note" that will soon appear on sybase.com about
this very subject.
Got it back from a doc person who edited it for me (to make
it readable). I still have to incorporate her edits (all are good)
then will be posted.
Examples included.

Reed;

What would be nice in "Pumpkin", would be to add these type of other
external files (maybe like a PKR file) that the PPB CAB process would use in
the Project Painter. This would automatically add these extra things into
the Application CAB file being built for you by PPB!

Food for thought!

Regards ... Chris

I was specifically thinking about you specifying
arbitrary files like INI, DSN, etc.
