I've been using PocketPB to develop in a PocketPC 2002 emulator environment.
Now, I want to move to a PocketPC device. However, I noticed that the CAB
file used to install (and I want to use the CAB file versus ActiveSync) is 0
bytes. I've looked at both the asa_ce.ARM.cab and the asa_ce.arm.30.cab
files.

Although ASA 8.0.2 was on the PocketPB evaluation CD, I did try to install
from the SQL Anywhere Studio 8.0.1 CD...since we have an internet license
for it. I suppose I could try to install from the PocketPB CD...but wanted
the licensed software on my machine. Should I be posting this to the ASA
group? Is there a place on the Sybase site to get this CAB file?

Has anyone else encountered this problem? The CAB file for the PocketPC
Emulator works fine (under x86).

Brian

Brian, run the ASA 8.0.2 install program again and select ASA for
Windows CE. When it launches the ASA for CE install, go through the
options and select the Pocket PC 2002 option. If the device is not
connected to your laptop then the install program should generate a
CAB file for you.

I recommend the 8.0.2 version that comes with PPB as it works better
with PPB and MobiLink.

Same result...0 bytes on the CAB file...using the 8.0.2 version that comes
with PPB. It installs several files (most dated 5/4/2002) in the C:\Program
Files\Sybase\SQL Anywhere 8\ce\arm directory...but the CAB file remains
empty. I did choose to not install to the actual device. I will try again
to install to the device...even though the device is not connected...and see
if that builds the CAB file.

Upon further review...and verification in the PPB install instructions...the
CAB file does not get created by the install. Basically, you can try to
install to a mobile device. If a device isn't present, then it will want to
install to an emulator. If ActiveSynch isn't running, THEN it creates the
CAB file...but only for the emulator (x86 or em86).

I need the ARM CAB file. This is an evaluation CD (I am going to order by
licensed copy prior to 9/15 to get the discount)...could that be the
problem? However, I've tried from the ASA CD with the same problem....

It's not because it's an eval CD.

I believe the iAnywhere install needs to actually see the device
to build a correct CAB file.
If you plug in your PDA, you'll get the ARM file.

After the install tries to connect to the device via activesync, you should
be able to tell it not to try to connect again and it will build the cab
file for you. Don't select the emulator for install or it may not work.
