We have been facing a strange problem lately and we just want to confirm if its ASA Bug or is it something wrong that we are doing. We have an application developed in PPB which uses 2 databases. One locally on the device and one on the Network for realtime searches. The issue is if for some reason the Handheld device fails to make a connection to the Network database the whole device comes to a complete stop; you cant do anything at all. We have tried all options we could find to make connection to network database (DOBROADCAST=DIRECT or  DOBROADCAST=NONE; VERIFYSERVERNAME=NO, TO=1) but nothing helps; the device comes to a crawling speed. Can you please enlighten us as to what can be done in this regard.

Your immediate assistance would be highly appreciated.

Thanks and Best Regards

Mohit,

I am able to reproduce this problem in PPB and outside of PPB in an eVC++ application with both ASA 8 and ASA 9.  When the server host is found, everything is fine, but when the server host is not available the client application locks up.  If you use the "LOG=<filename>" line in your DSN file, you will see messages logged there, but everything still locks up.

I'll log a bug, and if for some reason it turns out to be a user error on my part, I'll post the details here.

HTH,
Bharat
