Hi

We have a Clipper app that's been running successfully with ADS for a few
years. We're now trying to write some utilities to use the live data from
VFP 8. My problem is that some tables have a DESCEND() index which VFP
doesn't like, it just shows an error on opening the table. Sometimes this
appears many times while opening just one table (eg. if there are many
indexes in the CDX that have this function).

I've tried using the ADS ODBC driver but this always crashes VFP with a
C00005 error.

Anyone have any ideas about how I can get around this problem?

Many thanks in advance,
Barry

Hi Barry,

I don't have good ideas for getting around the problem, just some suggestion
to diagnose the possible causes of the problem.

1) What version of ADS and ADS ODBC driver are you using?
2) Can you use the ADS ODBC driver to see the data using other utilities -
for example the Advantage Data Architect? If no, the problem is between the
ADS ODBC driver and ADS server and you can get help from our technical
support, advantage@extendsys.com, on this issue if this is the case.
If the Advantage Data Architect can use the ADS ODBC driver then the problem
is related to VFP. Perform Step 3.
3) Can you use other ODBC drivers from within VFP 8? If no, then the problem
is likely not Advantage related and you should post your problems to VFP
related NG to get better help. If you can use other ODBC drivers from within
VFP without problem, then it appears to be a problem between VFP 8 and
Advantage ODBC driver and you can contact our technical support for help.

I have the same problem with VFP8

I use VFP to view data (remote views) from our billing software,
Medisoft,which uses Advantage StremalineSQL ODBC.

While I use VFP 6.0 I had no problems creating and modifying the remote
views.
After I upgraded to VFP 8.0 I can only browse the remote views(there is
conectivity)
but I can't create new ones or modify the old ones.

Always get the same error :

AppName: vfp8.exe AppVer: 8.0.0.2521 ModName: adsodbc.dll
ModVer: 6.20.0.0 Offset: 0002bdac

Fatal error: Exception code=C0000005 @ 06/03/03 09:39:41 AM. Error log file:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual FoxPro 8\vfp8err.log

I did get a response from Advantage but I would have to pay $195 ..

I still have VFP 6.0 and it works fine
