We currently run a client/server application on our lan, using SQL Anywhere
Studio 8.0 (Which is ASA I believe). We have pocket powerbuilder. We want
to send data into tables directly over the wireless network built into our
PocketPC (Symbol PDT8146 - Spectrum 24 Wireless Lan). We have the TCPIP
setup to connect between the two, how do I set up pocket powerbuilder to
connect to the database running on my LAN and send/receive data from it?

Put a DNS file on the root of the PDA along the lines of (this one works for
the ASA Network database sample):

Compress=No
CommLinks=TCPIP{dobroadcast=DIRECT;host=<ip address>;port=2638}

Are there any .DLLs that I need to have on the PDT for this ASA8 connection
to work?

In order to make my PPB app work on the PDT for deployment, besides the app
itself, is the only thing I need to run the PorkcetPowerBuilder.ARM.CAB
file?

When I tried to make a CAB file from the deployment option, I got an error:

Section [SourceDisksFiles] or [SourceDisksFiles.C:\Program
Files\Sybase\Pocket Powerbuilder 1.0\support\ezsetup\ezsetup.exe\] is
required

Do I need to modify the .INI file before this will work?

Thanks for the help on the DNS question.

Whatever you want to call it, with a .DSN extension. That gets included in
the connectstring from the application:

SQLCA.DBParm = "ConnectString='FileDSN=arm.dsn;UID=dba;PWD=sql'"

(And it's DSN, not DNS. My bad!)

I have been able to connect to the database remotely.. but it is buggy.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt, with the exact same connect
string.
It is connecting over a wireless connection, so I am not sure if that has
anything to do with it, but I have never had wireless connectivity problems
between my laptop wireless card and 8146 scanner before, so i can only
assume its a database issue.

Sometimes it just doesnt find the database, but I think that's more of a RF
problem than anything else.

Is it possible the standard port for the ASA db on the
laptop is in use or blocked somehow?

I ran into a problem with active sync wanting to use the
same port that my ASA 8 db uses by default. By changing the
port number for my db, i was able to consistantly connect to
the desktop db from the pocketpc through the cradle.

Not sure if this helps or not, but here is the start command
for the db using the alternative port.

"C:\Program Files\Sybase\SQL Anywhere 8\win32\dbeng8.exe" -x
tcpip{port=49152}

In my dsn on the pocketpc, i specify the port with this
line.
CommLinks=TCPIP{host=ppp_peer:49152}

HTH,

Karen
