I am playing around with developing an application with PPB eval. as an
alternative to using the MCL language. MCL is similar to basic, so windows
usually flow from one screen to another, as a powerpoint slideshow might,
either in order forward and back, or jumping from one to another.

I have tried to imitate this type of behavior with PPB eval and have had
several problems so far. I have three years PB experience, so I know what
I'm doing, but many basic operations that compile correctly cause PPB to
crash out of the app.

I first tried to create an app that opens a splash screen window, then
another window from there, closing the splash window in the beginning of the
open statement for the second window. The result was that the second window
was covered up behind the "file explorer" window.

After viewing some of the examples included with PPB, it seems that all of
the examples use one "Main!" window, and every other window that opens are
response windows from that main window. So I created a main window, with a
basic menu (File close, etc). My application opens w_main on startup.
w_main then opens a splash window that has a 5 second timer, then closes
itself. The problem is that w_main doesnt complete its creation before the
splash window is open, so I can see the title of the main window, and if i
move the response window around i can see the menu from the main window, but
the background has not yet filled in, and the previous windowsCE screen is
still in the background... then, once the response window closes, the
background for the main window finally finishes drawing, and the menu
proceeds to dissappear. What can I do to resolve this? There are certain
operations I want to force a user to go to (like view a splash screen and
force them to a login screen) before they get to the main window. But
currently the way of two response windows causes the main window to
malfunction, even though there is no code at all in main except the two open
statements for the response windows. Any help here would be appreciated.

Also, I am having erratic behavior when connecting to a remote ASA 8.0
database. Sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesnt when using user accts
other than DBA/SQL.

Here is my connection string:

sqlca.DBMS = "ODBC"
sqlca.Database = "LOGAIS"
sqlca.userid = ls_userid
sqlca.DBPass = ls_password

sqlca.DBParm = "IDLE=1,disablebind=1,autocommit=0,connectstring='DSN=" +
sqlca.database +";UID="+ sqlca.UserId +";PWD="+ sqlca.DBPass +"'" +&
",ConnectOption='SQL_DRIVER_CONNECT,SQL_DRIVER_NOPROMPT'"

Any suggestions?

Post an event from the open event of the main window and then open your
popup window from there.
