Does anyone know if a Developer Edition's for ASE 12.5.1 on Windows and
Linux will be made available? As it was for 12.5, does that imply that a
Developer's Edition will become an integral part of the ASE family for all
future releases?

PS: reason I ask is while we do have a contract with Sybase, we'd like to
investigate the potential of licensable options.

Hi Dale

I saw comments recently that the 12.5.1 Dev Ed would be available late
November. I expect the release will coincide with 12.5.1 ESD#1 which should
be out before year end. ESD#1 is expected to complete the 12.5.1 feature set
on on all supported platforms which, as far as I know, lacked the Scheduler
on release for Windows.

Only Sybase can answer their intent toward the Developer Edition beyond
12.5.1... however, I would be deeply disappointed if it ceases to be. I
believe it and the earlier System 11 version for linux/bsd are largely
responsible for Sybase's database leadership position on Linux. I know of a
number of Sybase sites that started dabbling with the free ASE on Linux only
to purchase later versions.

You can ask Sybase for evaluation versions of licensable options, I think
they arrange time limited keys for you if they agree to the evaluation. Not
all options are enabled in the Developer Edition - from memory HA, DB
Expert, SQL Expert, and DBXray are not enabled and keys would need to be
added for these options to work. The FTS option is supplied but it is a demo
version that expires after nn days.

Alo, check
http://www.sys-con.com/Linux/readerschoice2003/liveupdate.cfm?BType=2 ,
where ASE is doing very nicely!

Kind Regards

found it. maybe it was there all along

http://www.sybase.com/ase_1251devel

Then again, once I fill out the download form:

"This page (content ID 1026921 ) is unavailable at this time. Please come
back later, as it may be restored. Otherwise you can let us know by sending
us feedback .

We appreciate your help in making this portal useful to you."

Maybe it's not quite ready.
