I am testing Manage Anywhere and I am having difficulty
getting the Palm Micro Agents to install and work. When I
install the micro agent on my Tungsten T it resets the
device when I tap the MAStudio icon. When I install the
Micro Agent on a Symbol 1700 it locks up the device when I
tap on MAStudio.

So what device does this work on? Was it tested on any of
the above devices?

Thanks,
Phil.

The Direct Palm MicroAgent is not currently supported on Palm OS 4.0 or
higher.Docked Palm devices are still supported in the newer Palm OS
versions.

The product totally loses its usefullness if there are
exclusions such as these based on PalmOS versions. Palm OS 5
is popular enough that it needs support for all
functionality.

Apparently you still have some problems with devices under
OS 4.0 as well. As stated earlier the software locks up a
SPT1700 running PalmOS 3.5.2.

Hi Phil,
Have you opened a support case with regards to the lock up you are
seeing on the SPT1700? If so, feel free to forward me the case number and I
can check on the status for you.

Robert,

I am evaluating this product for a potential client with
about 400 Palm users. I obviously cannot reccomend this
product to them if I cannot get it to function properly in a
simple test environment. I am also obviously not going to
purchase this product and then hope that it can be
eventually fixed.

The net result of these lacking features is that I will
have to recommend a different remote management tool. I do
hope that you look to improve both the stability and the
OS/platform support(such as the SPT1700/1800 devices) for
the Palm agents for future releases.

Thanks,
Phil Lachmann

Decisions to add support for OS versions are based on customer demand.
To date we have not had sufficient demand for support for Palm devices to
prioritize the Palm OS 4 or 5.2 support. Feel free to follow up with your
Sales Rep. They can talk to Product Management to clarify the timelines for
the release of additional Palm support.

Again, if you would like to open a case with regards to the 'lock up'
that you are seeing then we would be happy to work with you to resolve the
issue.

Perhaps you have had no demand for these OSs because
potential clients who would use this product download the
trial and have poor results (as I did). There are few if any
new Palm devices coming out with OS version < 5, so this is
something that you may want to talk to your Poduct
Management team about.

For the benefit of your product perhaps you should resolve
the lockup isse on the 1700/1800 series yourself. Then when
a potential client downloads the trial in the future it will
work for them and they may actually purchase.

Good luck working this out. I hope you come up with a
stronger Palm solution for future interested clients.

Phil.

As far as I can tell demand is fading fast for Palm devices in world
of custom application development. Pocket PC has come of age... you
can run the ASA network database server dbeng9.exe which allows
multiple shared databases and multiple connections, even across the
wireless network for remote administration tasks. With Palm, you have
to rewrite everything for OS 4 and 5, with the knowledge that you'll
have to rewrite again for 6... better to just rewrite once, for Pocket
PC.
