After two-day running a 26MB app, the program generated a 10MB .JS file (the
file is auto named after the application name, with extension .JS). This makes
the migrated app impractical to run over broad-band. Only works for Intranet.

How to shrink the JavaScript file? What are the factors contributed to large JS
file?

The factors that contribute to large JS file include:
1). Application properties and code;
2). Global functions;
3). Global structures;
4). Window properties.

We suspect that there are large number of global functions and global
structures in your application, so the generated .js files will be extremely
large. Please do the following to shrink the file size:
1. Package the global functions into NVOs (glocal functions with similar
functionality can be packaged in the same NVO);
2. If possible, change global structures to window type structures.

Thanks,
Julie Jiang

Julie ,
Sorry to interrupt in between .
My concern for Point 2)
[ " if possible , change global structures to window type stuctures" ]
I believe ,this was happening in PB6.5 versions and has been stopped after that .

Global Structures have the s_stc.src is as below :

global type s_stc from structure
 string  ls_part1
 string  ls_part2
 string  ls_part3
 long  ll_part1
 long  ll_part2
 long  ll_part3
end type

To put , the above stucture , we have to open .SRW and mannually paste it there after removing the "global" as a keyword.

Or you were pointing to something else Or do we have any tool/shortcut for that.

Thanks and Best Regards
Vikas J

Hi Vikas,

Please do not take the suggestion yet. I am checking with the engineer and hope
to get a good answer for it.

Hi Vikas,

Appeon 2.7 supports PowerBuilder 8.0.4 and PowerBuilder 9, so the suggestion applies to both PowerBuilder 8.0.4 and PowerBuilder 9.

You have proposed the method of "open .SRW and mannually paste it there after removing the global as a keyword", it is the best way to do it in PowerBuilder 8.0.4 and PowerBuilder 9.  However, if your JavaScript size is acceptable and there are no many global structures in the application, it is OK if you do not take the suggestion.

Regards,
Julie
