Hi all,

are there any plans to enable/disable triggers in a forthcoming release?

Thank you,

No, there are no current plans to do so.

I know you have no plans for this, but it would be helpful.

I have triggers that update an audit trail table when a user changes a record, but these changes
trigger changes to another table because of calculations.
I end up with a large log, when all I wanted to capture was the users modification of the first record.

thanks

Hi Jim,

This is a good suggestion and has been mentioned in the past. If demand
ever increases it could be a possible future enhancement.

I've come across three situations in my application where I've had to put
special code into my triggers. The code basically says if a specific user is
logged in then don't perform the trigger because my audit log is building up
too fast. This has caused me to create a larger number of users I have to
maintain in my dictionary. I also have a dynamic SQL builder in one of my
applications. It could potentially create a SQL statement thousands of lines
long. Each of these lines could in turn be update or insert statements. When
each of these statements finally get fired off a SQL statement that should
take 1 or 2 minutes ends up taking 10 minutes because my poorly written
trigger :) bogs it down while it is keeping track of what field changes have
been performed. I think having the ability to toggle the triggers on and
off would be very beneficial.

Hi Jared,

This has been mentioned quite a few times. It's currently in our list
of future enhancements, but not scheduled for 8.0. Give Chuck a call
and haras him a bit.
