hi there
one of the most important things in our application is that
the user is able to import data either from excel or from a
text file.
as I can see in the unsupported functions, importfile is not
supported.
do you have any suggested workarounds?
thanks once more

Hi Markus,

Appeon engineer suggests you use the following workaround for ImportFile:

(1) Upload the files (such as excel or text file) to the server
(2) Use a server NVO to execute the ImportFile function, and the return
value of the function is stored into a DataStore.
(3) Implement the appeon_workarounds.pbl (that provides workaround for
GetChanges, SetChanges) for returning the value to the client side. The
GetChanges function is executed for the DataStore, and the SetChanges is
executed to pass the value to the client DataWindow. Please get the
detailed instructions about the appeon_workarounds.pbl from the section
8.2.1, Distributed DataWindow, in the Appeon Migration Guide.

Hello
We have the very same issue here. Are there any samples
around how to do this? (We have no expirience with
distributed datawindow).
Best regards
Ali

Hi Ali and Markus,

Appeon engineer designed an application that applies the ImportFile
workaround. In the application, a file named test.xml is imported to a
DataWindow via NVO.

The attached is the description of how Appeon engineer designed the
application. Please get the source code of the application from
http://www.appeon.net/package/importfile.zip. Please note that the
application is developed in PowerBuilder 9.0 IDE (due to a misunderstanding
of Appeon engineer), and Appeon 2.7 is not certified for supporting
PowerBuilder 9.0 yet.

If the methodology is applied in PowerBuilder 9.0, the files that can be
imported include XML, Excel, or Text files.
If the methodology is applied in PowerBuilder 8.0.4, the files that can be
imported include Excel or Text files.

Regards,
Julie Jiang

Also, future versions of Appeon will be available for either Pure JavaScript
or Appeon Accelerator with ActiveX. The Appeon Accelerator version will
allow more client-side integration with future releases including the
DW.ImportFile() function.
