Occasionally the dbbackup command line utility results
in 'Database backup failed' message. The dbbackup command
line
utility is in a batch job that is a scheduled task that runs
7:45 pm week nights.
The occurance was about once in a three week period when
the
size of the database was about 500,000 KB. Now that the
size has
increased, the frequency of the occurance has also
increased.
It now happens approximately once or twice a week.
I have made sure nothing runs the same time on the server.
I
have changed the time that the scheduled task runs. I have
even
gone as far as shutting down the server and bringing it back
up
before the backup. This was in hopes to break any lingering
connections. The latest thing I have tried is to stop the
virus
scanning software before the dbbackup command. Then I start
it
back up after the successful completion of the backup.
All this is to no avail. It still fails and never in the
same
place. I need to find a way to make this work without
failing.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be the problem?

Hi Janis,

Please post your question to the appropriate forum. I would like to point
out that the Appeon newsgroup is monitored by Sybase and Appeon engineering
staff who are very knowledgeable about Appeon issues. Question that are
purely Database-related are best answered by the staff and users of the
database newsgroup.
