I have noticed in previous posts that VPN connections from slow internet
connections are not advised.
I have an application that needs to connect to ADS remotely from a dialup
connection over the internet using VPN client software.
The application is just going to do a synch of the database then disconnect.
I would be running queries on approx 5 small tables.
Is this advisable?
Are there new features in the latest versions of ADS that make this a
realistic option? (i.e quicker)
If this is not advisable, what are my options to make this work?

Normally in slow connections the max speed is the media where the data is
When you push or pull data, normally you have to run the query in the server
and transport the result to the other side (ADT,DBF or XML)
Have two connections one to the local server and other to the remote server,
run the query and then the update on the local server to make the update.
Sometimes over a VPN you have to open the Directory or the files like
