While I was attending the annual TeamSybase meeting I asked a few
questions about how the ASE enhancements process works. To my joy and
surprise, I am pleased to tell you that this IS a forum which is closely
watched and considered when planning for future enhancements to the ASE
product. Although it's not the only forum closely watched by Sybase
engineering, it is "on the radar".

I'm not sure of what the perception of this newsgroup has been in the
past, but let me make it clear that our contributions here are being
noticed, and they do make a difference.

Thanks -

glad to hear that. I have been using Sybase ASE for quite a long time.
My future is also bet on Sybase future. However, recently I found that
Sybase has put a lot of effort on Mobile computing/ASA, although ASE is
still a main source of income to the company.
may I ask..
Does Sybase want to give up the RDBMS database market ?

I don't think that Sybase wants to give up the RDBMS market. Presently
Sybase is considered a small niche player in that market. Sybase would have
to bankrupt itself with marketing and advertising expenses to gain a few
measly market points. It's just not worth it.

With 70% of the mobile/wireless market presently in their hands Sybase is
doing fine. Promoting ASA and IQ is where their future lies. I'm sure ASE
will benefit indirectly. There may be less ASE RDBMS out there but there is
also less ASE DBA's.

Give up the RDMBS market? NO. Not at all. Look at the release history
of ASE recently and the roadmap ahead for ASE. Sybase is doing nothing
to "give up" the database market. Keep in mind that ASE is not the only
database product that they have. ASA, and IQ are strong products in
their mobile, and DSS market spaces.

Now, I'm under a non-disclosure agreement with Sybase, but I can safely
tell you that from my point of view, ASE as well as ASA and IQ will be
alive and quite well for the forseeable future.

Continue to post enhancement requests here as you see fit. Also, use
the ISUG Enhancement process as well. Sybase engineers and product
management DO read these groups, and they DO pay attention.
