We are very interested in Appeon after viewing todays
TechCast.
1. Will Appeon run on a UNIX server?
2. Is there a way we can get the analyzer, prior to purchas,
to see how much of our code is supported or how many of our
windows are heavy windows?
3. We print custom labels from our app and want to verify
that we can print directly to a printer and NOT thru a .pdf
file. Can we do this?

Thank you,
Jay

Jay,

Glad to hear today's techcast was so beneficial for you. For those that
missed the techcast, there should be a recorded version about on the Sybase
website in the near future.

Below are answers to your questions:

1. Appeon does not currently support UNIX server. This is something we are
considering for future versions of Appeon. Is UNIX absolutely essentially
for you or would you be open to running on a Windows server?

2. You can get much more than the analyzer. Sybase offers a developer
edition of the entire product including the Appeon Developer and Appeon
Server for evaluation purposes. As such, this does not have a licensing
cost, however, I believe you will need to pay some odd dollars for shipping
and handling. Please contact your local Sybase office or Sybase sales rep
to request a developer edition of Appeon.

3. The browser security sandbox limits us from directly printing to the
printer. However, once the PDF file is generated, this can be directly
printed to the printer. This has not been an issue for most customers.
Would this be acceptable in your situation?

Hope I have been helpful.

Regards,
Armeen Mazda

Armeen,

Thank you for your response.

We are a pharmaceutical company dealing with sensitive
patient information. We would feel more secure with a UNIX
server outside our firewall than we would with a Windows
server.

As for printing, our app prints 100's of prescription labels
of different sizes to different printers. Each label is
it's own report. Having to save these as .pdf files and
then have to print those would be a HUGE inconvenience.

Thanks again,
Jay

Jay,
Assuming that you are printing labels - not he reports (i.e. single record
DWs) you might get away with printing just HTML portion of the datawindow.
To do quality printing from the browser you need to have client-side
control - like www.htmlprinting.com and custom print-template for the
professional solution
HTH,
Anatole

Jay,

FYI, we plan to support direct client-side printing for Appeon 2.8. This
way, you will not have to load the PDF files and print them through Adobe
Acrobat. As for Unix support, this is planned for post Appeon 2.8.

Regards,
Armeen
