I have a simple datawindow that selects one field from a table.
d_invoice_master_extract
select "inv_master"."supplier_inv_id" from
"inv_master"

In the code from my window, I declare the datastore in declare
instance variables as:
datastore ds_inv_master_extract

Then in my window open event, I say
integer rows
ds_inv_master_extract = create datastore
ds_inv_master_extract.dataobject = 'd_invoice_master_extract' //
this is my datawindow name
ds_inv_master_extract.settransobject(sqlca)
rows = ds_inv_master_extract.retrieve()

rows is 0

I am using powerbuilder 7.0 with sql server 2008
The original datawindow selected many fields and had three retrieval
arguments defined, two of which where datetime fields. It wasn't
working, so I have scaled the window down to a simple select without
retrieval args to see what was not working. I still can't get it to
work even with the simple select. Run/preview in the datawindow itself
works.

If it works in the preview pane and not in your application, I would
start looking at differences in how the two connect to the database. Are
you using the same DBMS? (ODBC / native / OLEDB?) Is it the same user /
is it a permissions problem?

Probably the quickest way to get a lead is to trace your database
connection. Add the word "TRACE" to the beginning of your DBMS property
before you connect. So if you currently have SQLCA.DBMS = "ODBC" then
change it to SQLCA.DBMS = "TRACE ODBC". Run the application and try the
retrieve. Then check the trace file to see a more details explanation of
what's going on.

run trace for your query,
if this will not explain this,
check if you do not have any filters applied in your control.

Most likely you are compiling to a single EXE and including the
dataobject...
