I installed the valuation version of Datawindow .NET today and it looks
pretty good, however it doesn't seem possible to use it like other grid
controls, I realize for many people this is a positive thing as it is more
powerful, but I really just want it for its presentation abilities as we are
designing a separated architecture with our business rules being contained
in self-validating business objects (basically strongly-typed datasets). I
know I could do this with datastores but then I would lose a lot of the
power of Datasets, and I wouldn't really be using Visual Studio any more,
also it would make it that much harder to switch to ObjectSpaces in the
future and to replace the presentation layer if that should be necessary.

Can anyone tell me if I am missing something, is it possibl to retrieve data
into a dataset using ADO .NET and then display it in Datawindow .NET?

We are working on adding Dataset support for the next release. One
thing you could try is using XML to move the data to/from your
Datasets. The DataWindow supports importing and exporting XML. It is a
more manual process I know but you could probably write a couple of
classes to handle it generically.
