We are using Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere 9 and try to
create some structured types for use in our database.

unfortunately any attempt in "interactive SQL" -console ends
up in
the same syntax-error. "type" doesn't even seem to be
found!

if we just enter the following simple example, the
structured type
cannot be created:

CREATE TYPE Street AS (
Name CHAR (40),
Length DECIMAL (9,2),
Width DECIMAL (5,2)) NOT FINAL

What are we doing wrong?? We could really need some help on
this.

Thanks in advance.

DB2-style structured types are not available in SQL Anywhere.

If you want them, post a suggestion in the
sybase.public.sqlanywhere.product_futures_discussion newsgroup.
