We are running PPC2003 with I-Anywhere Client/Server 5.5.
What we notice on the device is that after a fresh install,
there is one shortcut in the "Windows->Start Menu" directory
named "M-Business Client". However, once we start-up
M-Business Client the device creates a secondary icon in the
"Windows->Start Menu" folder named "Avangto". Both links
start up "M-Business Client" when clicked but I don't
believe we should be seeing the second "M-Business" client
link. My guess is that Windows CE is creatind a new link
named "Avantgo" because the client application.exe file is
named "Avantgo" and not "M-Business Client" Could this be
the case?

Do you know why this Avantgo link is being created in the
Start Menu and how we can prevent it from happening?

Additionally - In Windows CE there are the recently used
links that appear just below the Windows "Start" button
horizontally arranged across the screen. We have, at times,
seen up to four "M-Business" icons in our recently used
programs shortcuts.

Again, why is this happening and can we get rid of it?

Regarding your first issue, I don't know why it happened.
What you can try though, is to exit M-Bus client (shortcut
^q) and re-open it. Before you do that, use File Explorer to
go to My Device\Windows\Start Menu and delete the extra
AvantGo shortcut there.

The second issue you reported is actually a Microsoft PPC
issue, i.e. when you run the same app from shortcuts located
in different folders, you will get multiple icons in your
recent program bar. I don't know of a way to get rid of it.

Hope this helps.

We've researched deeper into the issue and think we've
figured out the cause.

It appears that Microsoft PPC 2003 will create a shortcut in
your programs and start menu using the name of the program
executable (in this case Avantgo.exe) if a link with the
same name doesn't already exist.

With client 5.5, the shortcuts installed (in programs and
start menu) when devices are set up are named "M-Business".
This does not match the name of the root executable
"Avantgo" (located at /My Device/Program Files/Avantgo). So,
the first time you open "M-Business" by clicking on of the
"M-Business" icons in the start menu, Windows detects that a
new program is opening, uses the name of the executable (in
this case "Avantgo") and compares it with the Start Menu
list. It doesn't find a link named "Avantgo" so it creates
one.

To resolve, the executable will need to be changed to
"M-Business" so that when Windows checks the Start Menu for
shortcuts it finds a name match.

Can anyone confirm that my findings are correct? If so,
please add to the list of fixes for release 5.6 or higher!

Seth
