Hello,
I am getting "Unable to start database engine" from both
Sybase Central Anywhere and PowerBuilder. Alt-tab shows me
that dbeng50 is not responding.
I disabled Virusscan ver 8 and then things worked. I don't
want to go through life having to disable and enable a
virusscan program. I saw a reference somewhere that a .nim
file (what is that?) is preventing access to the log file.
Perhaps that will offer a solution?
Perversely, this has been an on and off problem since I
bought the new Virusscan and increased memory at the same
time.
TYIA
Richard

The most likely connection between virus scanners and SQL Anywhere
is the transaction log.

Get your virus scanner to skip checking .db and .log files and you
should be fine.
