Hello. I read in Appeon supported features documentation
ImportFile() datawindow function is not supported in Appeon
Web Applications. Do you have any suggestion in order to
resolve that disadvantage?

In general, How can I perform a client upload in Appeon Web
Applications?

Thanks,
Ivo.

Hi Avo,

Although ImportFile is not directly supported, Appeon application can integrate
with other types of applications (JSP app, .NET app) to meet the requirement of
uploading files from client to the application.

The following are the details of how we can do it:
1) Create a JSP application. This JSP application has at least two buttons:
Browse button for browsing files in the Client, Upload button for uploading a
selected file to Appeon Server.

2) Place a StaticHyperLink control in the PowerBuilder application. This
StaticHyperLink control links to the JSP application.

3) Design a NVO that contains of_import function. This NVO will be deployed as
server NVO; the of_import function overwrites the PowerScript import function,
importing the file from the server to an appeondatastore object. The of_import
function also applies SetChanges and GetChanges function: the changes to the
appeondatastore object are sent to the target DataWindow in the Web application.
Therefore, the file is imported to the target DataWindow.

4) Make at least the following script changes to the original application:
Replace the call to the import function with the call to the of_import function;
add the call to the SetChanges to set the return value of GetChanges from the
server to the target DataWindow.

In the solution, we used three bridges: JSP app for transferring the file to the
server; server NVO and of_import for importing the file to a server datastore
(appeondatastore object); SetChanges and GetChanges for sending the file content
to the target DataWindow. Note that appeondatastore is an object type defined
in the appeon_workarounds.pbl that is provided in the Appeon Developer folder,
also, SetChanges and GetChanges functions are functions that
appeon_workarounds.pbl uses to overwrite the PowerScript SetChanges and
GetChanges (for working around blob data type).

For information on how to apply server NVO, refer to Section 4.2: Distributed
desktop application in the Appeon Migration Guide. For information on how to
apply appeon_workaorunds.pbl, refer to Section 8.2: Distributed DataWindow in
the Appeon Migration Guide.

Thanks,
Julie Jiang

Also, Appeon Enterprise Edition planned for later in 2004 will directly
support ImportFile, ImportString, Dynamic Tab Pages, Dynamic User Objects,
Accelerator Keys, Hot Keys, Shortcut Keys, Print & Printer Functions, and
many other Client-side functions, properties, and events.

We do not have a plan for a beta program of Appeon Enterprise Edition
currently. However, please provide your contact information to me via email
in case we can get you a pre-release version.
