With much joy I plugged in my first datawindow to a winForm and quickly was
able to retrieve my data. Interestingly enough none of the dropdowns
populated. At first I wasn't surprised as half took retrieval arguments. I
then proceeded to implement the GetChild functions and got exceptions
(ChildNotFound).

It didn't take too many tries that I thought maybe I should put the dddw
object in the same library as the datawindow being displayed. Sure enough
it worked.

What was confusing was that there were no errors on the three dropdowns that
didn't need retrieval arguments. They just didn't do anything. I moved
those in to the same pbl and sure enough they worked like a charm. Problem
was that I shared dddw's across all the pbls and didn't want to have
multiple copies in each PBL.

So I thought I had found some sort of issue... I then went back to the
datawindow object on the winform and sure enough you can add more than one
pbl to the library list. You would have thought after 10 years of PB I
would have picked up on that off the start.

Anyhow it still seemed that the auto-retrieve dropdowns should have thrown
an exception if they couldn't be found...

I thought I would post this incase anyone else runs into it.

Well, they silently fail in PowerBuilder as well, but I understand
what you're getting at.
