Pretty funny... dw.net is quite a blast from the past (old time pb user
;) ). It's like 10 years later and the datawindow is still the best data
bound control around.

Have read references to supporting Datasets in next release of dw.net. Have
not seen mention of integration of DataAdapters into dw.net.

I'm using DeKlarit (http://www.deklarit.com) for data modeling and it
generates strongly-typed DataAdapter/Dataset pairs [by dbms]. In other words
it's generating DataAdapters for different dbms. Business rules, etc., are
also enforced in the DataAdatpers. So, in an ideal world the datasets could
be used for layout at dw design-time, data adapters could be used to
fill/update datastore/nvo (whatever it's called).

What say ye?

Best,
/jhd

You've seen "DataSet" bantied about here but that's not meant to
exclude the adapters as well. I know engineering has been considering
how to work worth these strongly-typed facets as well, specifically
since it has some parallel to PB dot notation.

Hey Jim,

Thanks info.

If at all possible I'd like the ability to manipulate the dataset using the
dataadapter generated by DeKlarit. For instance, DeKlarit may generate more
than one SelectCommand and pick it depending on how you fill. Two important
issues here... 1) IDbDataAdapter is not supported by DeKlarit DAs
(IDataAdapter is of course), 2) the concept of more than one SelectCommand
wasn't something that I'd considered before using DeKlarit. Other DA/DS
generators may have similar considerations.

It certainly doesn't help that MS chose to seal the DataAdapter class :(

Best,
/jhd
