Hi,

Just installed the minimal PC Client 12.5.2 to get ODBC working on Windows
XP.

It only uses 59MB of disk!

The ODBC directory is less than 10MB!

Now that's what I call bloated software.

The PC client installer is also slooooow.

Can something be done to improve this?

Alberto

Often the PC-Client install is more than just ODBC with TDS wireprotocol
runtime install - it also includes developer libraries, etc. - for all
libs (CTLib, DBLib), as well as prebuilt client utilities (dsedit, isql,
bcp, etc.). While in some cases you do have the option of deselect
debug libraries, locales, embedded SQL support, etc. - generally
applying patches (always a good thing) undoes this as the patches ship
with everything (all languages, diag binaries for exe's, debug libs,
etc.).

Net is that the disk space is not due to the ODBC driver itself, but if
installing from the ASE PC-Client install, most of the space is there
for the developer libs, utilities, codepages/charsets, and any languages
desired. Additionally, if you have applied SDK EBF's - some of the
items you thought were not installed, now are.

You may wish to open a feature request to provide a corollary to the
many that have asked for a "runtime" installer that an option be
provided for strictly wire-protocol ODBC if that is all you want.

The ODBC directory contains a 6MB file for the ICU stuff - this is for
support of many codepages. Also included is an extentsive help directory -
html based.

Sorry can't help about the disk space.

As for the slowness you can log a case with Sybase Tech Support to find out
how tune it.
