When I install Appeon server, it ask me about location of
ASA. We are using ASE and we don't want to use ASA on the
Appeon server machine where the data is not easily backed
up. Why does it insist on ASA? What does it store there?
Will there be an option to put that data in ASE instead?

Another problem. The Appeon server installation program
assumes my server name is Jaguar but my server name is
something else. The installation does not work properly
with server name other than Jaguar. It should ask me what
is my target server name.

Hi Henry,

If your application uses ASE, you can still use ASE database and the database
server can be a separate machine from Appeon Server.

The reason that Appeon Server requires ASA is that Appeon Server has a small
private database (AppeonDB) for keeping profile information and
security-sensitive information, and this database is an ASA database. During
installation, you are required to select an ASA location for hosting AppeonDB.
After the installation, you can configure connection cache(s) in Appeon Server
for connecting to the application database. The following is the list of
databases that Appeon supports:
Sybase Adaptive Server® Anywhere 7.0.4, 8.0.2 and 9.x
Sybase Adaptive Server® Enterprise 12.x
Microsoft SQL Server 2000
Oracle 8i or 9i
IBM DB2 UDB 8.1

Regarding the other problem you mentioned, it is true that if the server is not
Jaguar, after the installation, the server does not immediately work. You can
get it working by two steps:
1) In %JAGUAR%\Repository\Server, update the changes to the Jaguar.props during
the installation to the .props of the server. To make it simpler, you may
directly copy the content from the Jaguar.props to the .props of the server.
However, you must make sure the old information in the .props of the server is
not destroyed.
2) Make sure there are two listeners (one HTTP and one IIOP) for Appeon Server
listening.

Regards,
Julie
