I tried to buil a datawindow object with more than 1000
columns and it send me a message error. Is the column number
a limit for datawindow?, if yes, there is no way to do it?

First -- what is the error message? Without it, we can't really begin to
help you...

There is no physical limit on the number of datawindow columns, only
machine resources.

That said, your post begs the question -- what on earth are you doing w/
1000 columns? Even the ugliest of cross-tab reports would be unreadable
with so many columns.

OK

The error message is "Cannot generate DataWindow with more
than 1000 columns. Continue?" I don't believe that this
error was machine resources.

About of why there are too many columns, my customer needs a
data transformation from rows to columns depending on some
values and this transformation is column number variable.
Why he need this? I don't know exactly.

I have to transform the data and then export to another
format like txt, dbf... and with the datawindow I have that
choise.

thanks

You should open a case w/ support -- there is no documented limit of
1000 columns, AFAIK.

In the meantime, as a workaround, can you transform in batches of < 1000
rows at a time?

Dave -- AFAIK, this limit is undocumented (C++ comments in the code
don't count...)

Not that too many people have stumbled on that limitation to-date, but
physical limits like that should be documented.

We had come across a limit of such in a cross tab of Appointment where we
wanted user on the vertical and timeline on the horizontal & we bombed out.
Just not that, test on string values like that in each column when put
across starts bombing when it exceeds certain limit in each column. It
doesn't even have to touch 1000 columns.

Search through case xpress you will find a case for it.
I don't have a case # for it because I didn't create it.
