I have a data pipeline object that copies data from an Excel
spreadsheet to an Oracle table. This works A-OK initially.
After I save the pipeline object, re-open it, and execute
it, all VARCHAR columns truncate to 43 characters when
copied to the Oracle table. PBTrimCharColumns option in
the pbodb80.ini file has no effect. I am simply running
this in the Database Painter to isolate the trouble and
complete object testing before integrating it into a window
dialog. An ODBC trace indicates that the data is complete
coming from Excel. I believe the gremlin is in the step to
copy to the Oracle (8.1.7) table. There must be a setting
somewhere that is controlling this.

Solution anyone?

Thanks!!

43 seems to be some type of default or "magic" number in
PowerBuilder as I have seen a previous post about this same
issue; however no solution was provided.

Well...the answer is...drum roll please...DisableBind=1
voodoo wins again. By adding this to the DbParm for the
Destination (Oracle DB), it's all good.

It has been my experience that the use of DisableBind and/or StaticBind to
solve these issues indicates that the datawindow is not in sync with the
database. The correct solution is to edit the datawindow in Syntax mode (go
to syntax mode and add a single space) and then convert back to graphics
mode. The Pipeline utilizes the datawindow as part of its architecture.
