Hi, we have deployed Sybase central to our customers along
with
our own product. We have had reports from a small number of
customers that Sybase central fails to launch – the exe is
clicked
on but nothing appears on the screen.

Scjview.exe is running in the systems processes and the
problem
appears to only occur on customers server machines. We are
in
the process of investigating the exact system setups when
this
problem occurs.

I’m unsure whether this is something caused through the
way we
have deployed Sybase central or if it’s a problem with
Sybase
central itself not running on particular system setups.

Has anyone ever experienced this problem or have any ideas
on
what could be causing it?

Many thanks in advance

By any chance, are they using Terminal Services to connect to that machine?
Which version/build of ASA are we talking about?

Check also that the color depth is 256 colors or better.

We have identified that one case was due to Terminal
Services - we suspected because of the low colour/screen
resolution. However, the other cases are not using terminal
services and are using more than 256 colours.

Is there a document available that details the exact system
requirements needed by sybase central? I could then check
that all systems that are having the problem are meeting
this
spec... I couldn't find anything that detailed the finer
points - eg
about colour resolution etc - i found this out on one of our
testing
machines

ASA is version 9.0.0.1252

Many thanks
Lisa

Problem seems to be appearing on Win2000 servers - although
we ourself run a 2000 server and have no problem. We have
asked customers to send us a 'Belarc' of machines with the
problem. Until then i don't suppose there's really much
information to go on.

Just for info - one customer had the problem on Win 2K
server,
rebuilt the server and installed 2003 and problem went away
- hard to know if it was the rebuild or 2003 that fixed it.

Will update as and when
Thanks
