Hello Everyone,

I am trying to find some information about how to switch from XML database
to Ultralite running PocketPC's with the MBusiness 5.5 server/client.
My questions are:
1. is there a different API used for XML and for Ultralite databases?
2. is the Ultralite database relational?
3. do we need anything else on the server side apart from the Mbusiness 5.5?
4. is the synchronizatino process done by mbusiness server, or some other
sybase component?
5. depending on the answer to Q4, does the data server have to be Sybase, or
can it be MySQL like now? (this is the dataserver, not the avantgo/mbusiness
sync database with user accounts etc...)

thanks in advance for any help.

Hello Marcin,

Answers to your questions are as follows:

1 & 2. Yes there is a different API to the UltraLite database than to the
XML. Since it is a relational database you will be constructing standard
sql doing INSERTS, UPDATES and DELETES using JOIN and WHERE just like any
other rdbms. This is done through the javascript on your pages, using
prepared statements and result sets.

3, 4 & 5. On server side you need to have MobiLink, the synchronization
server for client-side Ultralite and ASA databases. You will also need an
ODBC database to act as your consolidated database. Currently we support
Sybase, iAnywhere, DB2, Oracle, IBM, and Microsoft. MySQL is not
currently supported.

The Product Manual is available at:
http://download.sybase.com/pdfdocs/awg0901e/ulagen9.pdf

Hope this helps.
