Hello,

is it possible to start a ASA Database V5.5.03 with an ASA V8.0.1 engine! I
want to upgrade it with
Sybase Central.
Any help would be appreciated!

The V 5.5 should run with the V8 Engine. Read in chapter 10 the topic
"Upgrading Adaptive Server Anywhere" (ASA online books ).
As far as I remember I had to do a unload/reload cycle to properly upgrade
the 5.5 database to Version 8.

Are you running the V8 engine on the same machine where the V5.5
engine ran?

Is the .DB file on a disk drive locally attached to the computer
running dbeng8.exe?

The .DB file contains an internal reference to the physical location
of the .LOG file; if you move the .DB file to another computer, it is
possible the .LOG filespec cannot be located.

Please show us a dbeng50.exe command line that works, and a dbeng8.exe
command line that does not work.

Sybase Central in v801 uses jConnect to connect to the database. It's
possible that your v55 database does not have meta-data support for jConnect
and Sybase Central will not be able to connect to the database. You may
need to run the command line utilities to upgrade the database. The
following should create a new v801 database identical to the v5503 database
you already have. Note I've given the full path to the v801 dbunload, so no
v5503 software is used in this process.

c:\asa801\win32\dbunload -c "dbf=c:\v5503.db;uid=dba;pwd=sql" -an v801.db

Hello,
I've specified the Commandline as you suggested, but I receive the following
error:

Adaptive server Anywhere Unload Utility Version 8.0.1.2600
***** SQl error: Specified database is invalid

What shall I do? Perhaps specify the engine for teh v55503 database

Aside : I'll assume you specified the path to your real database as opposed
to "c:\v5503.db"

No, you should not need the v5503 engine. If you simply start your current
database on the v801 engine, what happens?

c:\asa801\win32\dbeng8 c:\v5503db

Does the engine windows report any errors?
Does the engine start up?
