hi all,

Iam trying to re-distribute SqlAnywhere Studio 9.0.1 through Installsheild
DevStudio 9.0

My application runs both the personal database server and client on the same
machine [Embedded database deployment]

followed these steps.

1. Created Merge Modules from the InstalShield Project files provided by
Sybase.
2. Included merge modules into my installshiled Basic MSI Project.
Client Application Merge Module:
Databaser server Merge Module

the project successfully builds without any errors, when run on a end-user
machine, all the files are copied to my application target directory, but
ODBC files are not getting installed.

does someone have successfully built InstallShield Setup using the merge
modules provided by Sybase?. or there is any other way to deploy ASA Studio.

thanks in advance.

cheers
Satish

Which ODBC files?

Since the one for ASA should be there, I am assuming you are
talking about the ones that come with MobiLink. You would
need to add the MobiLink merge module (a bit of a guess on
my part there) to get those since they only, optionally, install
normally as part of a MobiLink installation ...

If you must deploy *just* those, then you will need to develop
you own merge module for them.

hi, thanks for you reply,

As per Sybase Manual to deploy Embedded Database Applications it says to
include

1. Client Application
In order to deploy client application:
Client Application
Database Interface Files like [ ODBC, JDBC, embedded SQL or open
clien]
2. Database Server
3. SQL Remote: if application uses SQL Remote application then SQL Remote
Agent is a must
4. Database: Application Data File

I built the below merge modules from the ISM Files provided by ASA under
deployment\mergemodules directory,
Client.msm
common.msm
langres.msm
personalserver.msm
charsets.msm

Installshield project successfully builds without any errors, when run on a
end-user
machine, all the files of ASA are copied to my application target
directory, but
"Database Interface Files" are not getting installed.

I dont see "Adaptive Server anywhere 9.0" driver in the ODBC driver list to
create the datasource.??

Note: application is windows based, developed using Microsoft VB.Net.
"Database connectivity is through Adaptive Server anywhere .Net Data
provider"

I suspect the files are there you just need to complete the
registry setting for the ODBC Driver Manager to recognize
that. See the doc. section

ASA Programming Guide
Deploying Databases and Applications
Deploying client applications
Deploying ODBC clients
"Configuring the ODBC driver"

for details.

Yes you are correct, I did not notice that manual updation of registry.

After updating the registry, the ASA Driver is getting displayed, but after
creating the Datasource, when i try to test the connection its says
"Unexpected error in starting the database".

Iam working with SqlAnywhere Studion developer edition, Iam in the process
of evaluation.

I check my application target folder, I see all the necessary files required
to run the database.

Is there any limitations with Developer edition, in building a setup
pacakage?

Not in this regard. You probably just have either:

- problem with your DSN
or
- a problem with your database files (and permissions, and ... )

I would start by check out your ability to start that database
and have the DSN connect to that. If that works then you
'Database' tab information must have an error in it.
