Is it possible to import either Informaker or Powerbuilder PBL's into

You can open Infomaker or PowerBuilder .pbls with DataWindow Designer
(which comes with DataWindow .NET). If necessary, DataWindow Designer
will migrate the DataWindows to the current version. I recommend that
you copy your DataWindows into a separate .pbl for use with DataWindow
.NET (If your PowerBuilder or Infomaker .pbls are on an earlier
version).

Dave Fish

Right now I'm trying to import a few reports that were developed with
Infomaker 9, but I can't seem to find a way of either opening the Infomaker
PBL or import the existing reports into a Datawindow.NET PBL.

How can I do that?

Create a new project in DataWindow Designer and then add your PBLS to
the library list, they should migrate automatically. Back up first!

In Datawindow.NET, I can't see any of the objects inside the Infomaker PBL
that I add to the project.

The PBL you sent me does not migrate because of a dependence on
w_pbstyle_logon and w_pbstyle_freeform. I suspect these were
libraries on your library list in Infomaker. Once I removed
references to those objects, I could migrate the PBL in DataWindow
Designer and see the DataWindow objects.

As soon as I tried to migrate the PBL, by right clicking on the
project and selecting migrate in the system tree.

That worked for me just fine, thanks so much. Now I'll have to wait for
release 1.5 since the ultimate goal is to have developers wit Powerbuilder
skills develop datawindows (reports) and .NET developers put them on the
web.

Thanks again

I also tried creating a very simple PBL with Powerbuilder 9.0 that contained
one datawindow and I have the same exact problem when I bring it into the
Datawindow Designer. I can re-create the datawindow, but I have many
datawindows from several PBL's that have been developed by three developers
over the past several years and I would like to use Datawindow.NET 1.5 to
eventually bring these datawindows to an ASP.NET environment, that's why I
have been evaluating Datawindow.NET to get an idea of what can be done, even
though I am not a Powerbuilder developer myself. but I have a basic
understanding on ow to use it.

Am I missing something when I bring these PBL's into Datawindow Designer?

Thanks

You're not really missing anything, but DataWindow Designer is really
a subset of PowerBuilder and cannot handle the other object types that
are likely in the libraries you are trying to reuse. My
recommendation would be to use PowerBuilder to move all of your
datawindow objects to their own PBL (or conversely remove all the
other objects from the PBL). Obviously, you'll want to make sure you
make backups! The DataWindow objects themselves will work just fine
though. The only possible exception is DataWIndows that make use of
global functions within expressions - that would not be supported in
DataWindow .NET.

You bring up an interesting problem though. It would be more friendly
of us to simply ignore the other objects versus trying to 'compile'
them and rejecting them in DataWindow Designer.
