Hello

being new to Manage Anywhere please can someone give me advice with the
following :

1) Can Manage Anywhere sync files based on device id as well as user id ?

2) Are file changes which are downloaded optimised, i.e. if I send a new
pdf manual via MAS to 100s of Laptops and only one page has changed, is the
who file or only the differences sent ?

3) What kind of error recovery is used ? i.e. if the download fails half
way through a) is the destination file preserved or do I have to load to a
temporary area until file is successfully downloaded then over write the
original file on the laptop ?

4) and finally, I understand that MAS stores lots download stats in an ASA
DB on the server. I assume that I could connect to this DB via ODBC ? If so
what infomation is held or where would I find this out

thanks in advance

1) Manage Anywhere itself does not use built-in file synchronization
mechanisms. Rather, communications are done through packages which can
contain files and instructions which, when the client device connects to
the central server, grabs the package, and executes it.

Distributing files to these client machines/devices are generally quite a
straight-forward task. Whether we can gather files from them though,
depends on your answer on what the client platform you are referring to
and, if the device is a PDA, whether they are usually docked or they
communicate directly to the central Command Server. Can you please shed
some light in this?

The answer regarding the ability to group those based on DeviceID also
depends on what the client device is.

2) It will be a download of the entire file

3) Manage Anywhere has checkpoint restart technology. That is, if the
download of a package is interrupted halfway, the next time the agent is
able to communicate to the command server it will try to start downloading
from the position where it was interrupted without extra user intervention.

4) Yes you can. For every package sent, we keep information of status,
progress, and results. The best way to handle access those records is
either through the Web console, or through the a Remote Admin console. The
latter is an ODBC application running from remote machines and requires
ODBC DSN configuration.

Raymond,

thanks for your response, to give you a little more information on what I
am trying to achieve.

Each time a laptop connects :

- based on the device id of the laptop, decide if various files have
changed on the laptop compared with the server version, if they have
download to the laptop.

I know the MAS uses packages which are downloaded to clients, can these
packages be created programatically or outside of MAS ?

thanks
