While running dbvalid, the ASA server died with the
following error:

Adaptive Server Anywhere Validation Utility Version
8.0.2.4392
4 errors reported
Internal database error *** ERROR *** Assertion failed:
201813 (8.0.2.4392)
Checkpoint log: page buffer read failed with status 23 --
transaction rolled back

Our process for running dbvalid is
1. run dbbackup to create a .db and .log file
dbbackup -c "uid=...;pwd=...;dbf=...." -y c:\workdir

2. copy the .db and .log files from workdir to tempdir

3. run dbvalid on the files in the tempdir
dbvalid -c "start=dbeng8 -x none ;
uid=...;pwd=...;dbf=c:\tempdir\..."

Any idea what assertion #201813 is? Or what does "read
failed with status 23" mean?

thanks,
David Blackman

I assume that the platform is windows. If not, please provide that
information. If windows, the status 23 means "Data error (cyclic redundancy
check) ". The assertion indicates where and what logic was being processed
when the problem was encountered.

The database is damaged and you should proceed with a recovery.

I would also suggest that you run diagnostics on your disk to verify that
there is no problems with the drives.

Thanks for the reply. My platform is Windows 2000. And
sure enough, the Windows Event Viewer -> System Log reported
a bad block on the disk at the same time the dbvalid was
running.
