...haven't gotten any answerts yet....

We try to save a datawindow as PDF. We installed GhostScript
and added the bin folder to the path variable.
The datawindow contains just some rows.
Then we tried to run the following statement
dataWindowControl1.SaveAs(@"c:\temp\my.pdf",
Sybase.DataWindow.FileSaveAsType.Pdf);

The exception 'Sybase.Datawindow.MethodFailureException' is
thrown.

We even copied the Drivers folder into the projects
bin\debug folder.

What do we make wrong?

Thanks for answerts
Markus

Do you see the Sybase DataWindow PS printer installed on your machine?
That should happen automatically when you first request a PDF be
printed - but if there are permission issues on your system (or using
Win2003 server) it might not be occurring and thus causing the
failure.

Can you save as PDF in DataWindow Designer?

Try downloading FileMonitor from www.syinternals.com and note where
the search progresses for GhostScript as you invoke SaveAs from
DataWindow.NET, that may provide a clue as to why it's not being
found.

Yes, I can generate PDF from the designer - that works. So
also the PS printer is visible.
The filemonitor shows nothing about ghostscript.
Please find attached the log file.

We (Kraft Foods Company) have to get this to work as we want
to use this datawindow.net in the future. If this PDF
generation does not work, we will not use the
datawindow.net.

Is Server2003 not supported for PDF generation? We not use
it right now but later, all PDF should be generated on the
server!

Thanks for fast help

DataWindow.Net just does a print job to a PostScript printer driver
and uses GhostScript to convert that to PDF. Chances are if there is
a problem, it's with the PostScript driver and/or GhostScript.

Since you're on Server2003, my guess would be the issue is with the
PostScript driver. I'd recommend (and would recommend anyway, even if
you weren't having problems) using the Adobe PostScript driver rather
than the MS one that Sybase provides. I'm not sure the MS one that
Sybase provides works on Server2003. You can download the Adobe
driver from the Adobe web site.

It isn't clear whetherr Markus is using Windows Server 2003 or not. He
says below that they are not currently using it but will be using it
later.

In any event there is a known issue with SaveAs PDF and Windows Server
2003. This is from the release notes for DataWindow .NET 1.5 Beta
(which should be available tomorrow):

Save As PDF fails on Windows 2003 Server
----------------------------------------
Saving as PDF fails at runtime on Windows 2003 Server. This is
caused by a Group Policy that by default disallows installation
of printers that use kernel-mode drivers. Kernel-mode drivers
have access to system-wide memory, and poorly written drivers can
cause system failures. To allow installation of kernel-mode drivers,
follow these steps:

1 Select Run from the Windows Start menu.

2 In the Open box, type gpedit.msc and click OK.

3 In the Group Policy console, expand Computer Configuration,
Administrative Templates, and Printers.

There is a problem generating PDFs from a runtime image if you have
not previous saved as PDF from the designer on the same machine. The
problem deals with the automatic creation of the Sybase DataWindow PS
printer which will fail with the DW.NET runtime. The remedy for this
would be to create the printer definition manually on such machines;
however, I sense from your e-mail that you have the printer installed
correctly. This problem is resolved in the upcoming 1.5 Beta which
should be posted very soon.
