Hello,

We have PB application which works with ASA. Now we think to port it to Web
and one possibility is to use Appeon.

As I understood Apeon is comming with EAServer.

Are there any limitation for connection numbers?

Are there any special requirements for servers? Now application is in most
cases on 1CPU or 2CPU servers and there are working ~50-100 users. Will be
the same hardware configuration ok to run Appeon at the same machine?

No any special architecture requirements (i.e. run appeon on some special or
dedicated server etc)?

TIA

Pit

Hi Pit,

The Appeon Server has no limitations on Connection Cache numbers.

Yes, a 2-CPU server should be fine for ~50-100 concurrent users and 1-CPU
server for ~50-100 end users.

The Appeon Server Production Deployment Editions (Enterprise & Advanced)
have no software limitations built into the product other than the
recommended hardware requirements.

The Appeon Server Developer Edition has a limit of 20 IIOP connections since
it is not a Production Deployment Edition.

The Appeon Server Trial Edition has a time limit built into it.

Here are my suggested specs for Appeon Server Software & Hardware (I have
raised them somewhat from the Appeon Installation Guide minimum requirements
because Wintel hardware is so cheap today):

Appeon Server Software requirements

. Windows 2000 SP4 (Professional, Server, or Advanced Server Editions) or
Windows XP SP1 (Professional Edition).

. EAServer 5.0.0. Appeon offers to install EAServer 5.0.0 during the
installation of Appeon Server. Alternatively, you can install it separately
before installing Appeon Server.

. PowerBuilder® Virtual Machine (PBVM) 8.0.4 Build 10656 or 9.0.1 Build
7171. The EAServer 5.0.0 provided by Appeon does not contain the PBVM
installation option so PowerBuilder® can be installed to place the PBVM on
the Appeon Server.

. Sun® Java 2 JDK 1.3.1 patch level 06 or JDK 1.4 patch level 01 which is
also supplied with Appeon Server.

Appeon Server Hardware requirements

. Pentium-class processor(s) running at 2.8GHz or faster, 1MB or larger
Cache, 800 MHz or faster Front Side Bus

. 256MB or larger DDR2, 400MHz or faster, Single Ranked DIMMs

. 2 GB or larger RAM

. 7.2K RPM or faster Serial ATA Hard Drive or similar speed Hard Drive

. 30 GB hard drive space

. CD-ROM drive (for Appeon installation from CD)

Regards, Rex

It means customer must buy PB also? Which version is needed - PB
Professional, Enterprise of the cheapest will be ok?

And to have the final view - if today I have server with ASA and customers
DB (some resources still available on this server)- will it be ok to install
Appeon on top of it?

Thank you.

Pit

Hello Pit,

If you build the application for the customer who will license the Appeon
Enterprise Edition or Advanced Edition Deployment for Production and you
already own PowerBuilder, then the customer does not have to purchase
PowerBuilder. Otherwise, yes the customer needs to purchase PowerBuilder to
do the development and deployment with Appeon.

Appeon licensing includes an EAServer license so you don't need to worry
about licensing EAServer separately. If the customer already owns EAServer,
they will receive a discount on a production edition of Appeon.

Appeon has always been tested on PowerBuilder Enterprise. I do not know what
will happen if PowerBuilder Professional is used.

Regards, Rex
