I've had an issue lately where the ASA 9 ODBC driver disappeared from the
"Drivers" tab in the ODBC administrator after installing the ASA 9.0.x to
ASA 9.0.2 update. I uninstalled and reinstalled ASA 9 to no avail. I then
tried an earlier version, ASA 8, and got the exact same behavior! I've hand
checked the registry, my system paths, etc. to no avail. Everything looks
copasetic.

This behavior was previously reported by Tiziano_Ricci on June 25, 2004.
Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Don Clayton

Here's the solution: I exported the registry key

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ODBC Drivers]

And then edited the .reg file, forcing the ASA drivers to the top of the
list. Although things are always displayed in regedit in alphabetical
order, that is not the physical order of the data in the registry. Deleting
the key and re-importing the key solved the issue.

In the exported registry key, what was the driver immediately before the
iAnywhere drivers that were not appearing?
I think this issue has occurred in the past because of an embedded 'NULL'
character in the driver entry in the registry that preceeds the ones that do
not appear in the odbc administrator (not just the iAnywhere drivers).

Have you also recently installed a program called FileMaker? We had a
problem in the past with a FileMaker install causing our drivers to
disappear in the ODBC manager. It's a problem with the DataDirect drivers
they install, and is discussed here (should all be one line, but it won't
be... ):

PS : Even if you haven't installed FileMaker, read the article. I discusses
checking the registry for an empty string as opposed to a '(value not set)'
value where drivers are defined, which is likely the problem (this is what
Jason H was referring to in his post BTW).

This piqued my interest. We have a workstation that will not communicate
with ASA on a pocket pc (using various versions of 9.0.1 and 9.0.2) no
matter how hard we try. The only thing that is different about that machine
is that it had Crystal Reports 9 installed/uninistalled, the installation
included some ODBC drivers for Sybase. Could that be causing the problem?
