Hello All !

Is it possible or not using the following scenario under Appeon:

Client working with application in Appeon through SSL, using the SSL
certificate. Application needs to analyse data in the fields of client's certificate,
and based on this info performs some processing
(for example get client ID from certificate and show to this client
only info for which he has rights to access).

Is it possible or not ? If yes, are there any examples how to work
with SSL certificate from Appeon appliaction ?

Roman V. Kabanov,
rvk@ok.ru

Hi Roman,

It is possible to work with applications in Appeon through SSL using the SSL certificate.

The special configuration for you to implement SSL can be summarized as three steps (besides these three steps, all the other configurations are just normal steps):
(1) Configure the Web Server as an SSL or a secure Web server (without using any Appeon-specific knowledge).  At the end of this step, you should have configured an HTTPS listener and port for the Web Server.
For instructions on how to configure an EAServer Web Server as an SSL Web Server, refer to Section "Tutorial: Using SSL" in the EAServer Security Administration and Programming Guide.

(2) Configure the SSL Web Server profile in Appeon Developer Configuration window. You need to specify the HTTPS listener and port for the Web Server Profile.

(3) Deploy an application with the configured HTTPS Web Server profile.  After the deployment, the URL for accessing the Web application should have "https" instead of "http" at the beginning, for example, https://192.0.0.80:8181/appeondemo.

Julie:

I think that Roman is looking at client side certificates, not a server side
certificate (as you discuss in your reply).

Roman: EAS can be set up to handle client side certificates, and then login the
person based on the certificate that is presented. The user will then have an
associated UserID. I'm not certain if you can use that specific userid directly
(Appeon is designed to look like client/server, not n-tier), but if you can
access the userid you should be set.

Oh, and one other thought. I don't recommend putting any flags or information
in the certificate directly. If you need to know something about the user,
associate the userid with other data in a DB table.
