Hi all,

Please can someone point me in the right direction...?

I need some advice on configuring Sybase's Mbusiness Server. I've created
my group, my channel, my ultralite databases, everything! All is working
fine on my local test environment, but now that I'm moving to my server and
I want to test the deployment, the Ultralite Pod does not download to my
device... I don't understand why not.

I've created a channel called "Pods" and it points to an html file called
"pods.html". The file has a section like this:
<a href="AG_DEVICEOS/ul_deps.htm"></a>

Then I've got a couple of sub-folders, once of which is "WinCE_OS" and it
contains the ul_deps.htm file, which has a section like this:
<a href="AG_DEVICEPROCESSOR/ulpod9.dll"></a>

Then I've got a subfolder in the WinCE_OS folder called "ARM" which contains
the ulpod9.dll file.

My problem is - this file is not downloading to my device.

Please anybody! I'm frustrated.

Thanks in advance!!!

Can you check the access log of the webserver holding the content (in
particular the ulpod9.dll) and see if the mBA server is attempting to
access it during the synchronization?

Did you check the synch log in the administration panel for the given
user and see if there are any errors accessing the various URLs?

Hi Greg,

I'm experiencing this problem again - so I've followed your advice. This is
what I get in the HTTP logs:

2005-04-05 03:15:49 196.36.119.42 - W3SVC31 MONALISA 196.36.119.42 80 GET
/sybase/WINCE_OS/ARM/SendFile2002.dll - 500 0 756 62
www.cyberagent.co.za Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+AvantGo+5.7;+Windows+NT)
CyberProp=1HB0RLCXV -

It boils down to a HTTP status code 500 and apparently that means:

500 Internal Server Error : The server encountered an unexpected condition
which prevented it from fulfilling the
request.

Any idea where to go from here?

Thanks!
Jan

What is SendFile2002.dll ?

It appears that that DLL is not replying to the server with a proper
response...this typically means that the DLL is misconfigured or has a
bug in it. 500 is a pretty ambiguous response code that means
"something didn't work"...unfortunately the webserver I think you are
working with isn't very helpful at helping you to track down these kinds
of problems (in my very humble opinion).

I believe this is a web application problem at this point, not an mBA
problem. You need to determine why it is that this SendFile2002.dll is
not giving a proper 200 response.

Hi Greg,

I think you're right in saying it's a web server problem... it's not
specific to that DLL only - the same error is reported for all the DLL's
that should be downloaded to the device (including the Ultralite pod for
Pocket PC as supplied by Sybase MBusiness).

I'm using Windows 2000 Server and IIS 6...

I've just deleted the Website in IIS and re-created it - and guess what -
it's downloading the PODS to the device - no problem!

One thing I want to mention though - is that one should be wary of the
Content Expiration setting in IIS. It's probably obvious - but if you're not
awake - you can sit with quite a headache... if the dependencies file you're
listing your PODS in has been cached by the M-Business server and you then
add more items (PODS) to the dependencies file - those PODS will NOT
DOWNLOAD! I've found that the best is to have the pages expire immediately.

I've got one other question - related to this - but I'll create a new
posting for that.

THANKS!!!

Jan

Make sure that your web server is sending the correct mime type for the dll
which is "application/octect-stream"
