Hi All,

A client of ours uses Advantage 7.1 with a JST Front-end.
When they are running Reports, Server's CPU utilizations is pegged to
98-100% on both Processors for about 15-20 minutes. All other users of
Advantage are running also very slow.

JST claims that it's all Network/Server problem but while this is happening,
Network utilization is about 5-10% and any other network/server request runs
fairly good.

Proccess I see with 99%+ utilization is ADS.EXE

- Does anyone know how to throtle ADS.EXE to use a percentage of CPU and/or
turn ON/OFF second processor?
- Has anyone seen this type of problem?
- Is problem in JST interface or ADS engine?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi,

There is currently no way to throttle back Advantage, when a request comes
in we use all available resources to process it. You should work with your
client to optimize the queries they are using for the reports. The
reporting queries are probably what is taking up all the processor time.

Thanks for response.
Is there a way to have more that one ADS Server working together and share
the load or pass function like REPORTS to a second server?

Thanks,

Is there still no way to throttle Advantage or have it only use one CPU?

We found the ads.exe running at 90% and looked in the error log and found
that it was posting an error that point to a winsock error. Error number
10038. We resolved this issue with reinstalling tcp-ip by the following
method:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259
But be forewarned that as soon as we corrected this error our Office hours
could not connect to the advantage database with error code 6420. I
replied to this error in another posting. Let me know if anyone gets this
resolved.
Thanks in advance!
